Nov 2 – Whittier speaker confirmed: Vicky Figueroa
My name is Victor Escobedo. I am a 12 &under girls fast-pitch softball coach from Whittier, Ca. The reason why I am writing you is to inform you of the following. My sister-in-law has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo surgery on Sept 25th to remove her right breast. It has not been an easy road for our family especially getting medical authorizations for ultra-sounds, an MRI, and doctor's visits since she has medi-cal insurance. On Sunday Nov 2, 2008 at 9:30am our girls softball team named "12U SoCal Next Level" along with another Whittier team named "The 12U West-Coast Voodoo" will host a benefit double-header softball game at Cerritos High School in Cerritos CA. This benefit game will be played in honor of my sister-in-law Lily Gomez and will also be held to make people aware of breast cancer. We are inviting your organization to our benefit and would greatly appreciate if someone could give a short breast awareness informative speech, if possible.

Nov 4, 6, 13, OR 20
I am writing on behalf of the Student Government Association of Alliant International University in Alhambra. I am writing to invite someone from your organization to speak to clinical psychology students here on our campus about the experience of breast cancer.
As clinicians-in-training, we are dedicated to increasing our knowledge and cultural competency of underserved communities, and to learn from someone or from an organization that represents a leading cause of death in women, especially minority women, and to learn about ways that we as clinicians can be advocates, would be extremely edifying for students.
We have November 4 from 12-1 for a lunch, or the 6th , 13th and 20th available either from 12-1 for lunch or a 5-7 dinner. We'd be delighted to hear about issues related to breast cancer and their affects on families, women, and minorities, and also how people at our school can be involved as clinicians or as citizens.

Our 2008 Wellness Retreat and Speakers Training
Enjoy the photos from the retreat! What a splendid day! Thank you beautiful Yvette for your yoga session. Yvette teaches at Yogaworks in South Bay (El Segundo). She soothed our souls and calmed our stresses in the early morning sun. Wonderful!
We speak inspiration, encouragement and hope
Welcome to the Los Angeles County affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure speakers bureau. We represent a highly compassionate group of volunteers from all walks of life affected by breast cancer in some way; it is our passion to inspire, encourage, and pass on the message of hope through our own experiences where either we are survivors or family members, close friends, neighbors, or business associates of those affected by the disease.
We speak on behalf of the Los Angeles County affiliate to serve our communities with our promise: to help save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.
As an organization, we are actively involved in the fight to eradicate breast cancer, through research, education, screening, and treatment. Today, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world's largest and most progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists - the only grassroots organization fighting to cure breast cancer at every stage, from the causes to the cures and the pain and anxiety of every moment in between. The Foundation also funds innovative programs for breast cancer education and awareness, screening for high-risk women and treatment for medically underserved women.
Our affiliate's 12 years of fundraising has resulted in nearly $7 million distributed to Los Angeles County community programs. Seventy-five percent (75%) of the local fundraising dollars remain in Los Angeles County supporting breast cancer centers, support groups and education in the metropolitan area and twenty-five percent (25%) goes to the Komen National research grant program. It is an important time to support the Affiliate. You can make a difference--one effort at a time.
We would like the opportunity to relay the message of hope, education, awareness, and treatment of breast cancer to many more communities through our Speaker's Bureau. We hope that our efforts to make a difference in the lives of women. We will be happy to work with your organization to arrange for a speaker from the Komen LA County Affiliate. We offer three speaking topics:
Survivors stories
Komen Foundation
Breast health
